*** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR MESSAGE *** Hello again Is anyone out there interested in trading patches for their various axes? I have a DX7 and have accumulated a number of interesting sounds. I've seen patches advertised for $20 to $200 - but I think we can beat that. Isn't that what a good users group is for? Well that's what I think we need. Let's say we have 10 DX7 owners - then the prices are more reasonable - $2 - $20. Right? ( all you non-anarchists need not reply) I have a friend who bought the Music Data analog patches for $200.00. What a waste! It seems that most owners are attracted to say 10% of the patches. Well, anyway I got my version of the Music Data patches for considerably less (tongue in cheek here). They have a nice acoustic piano patch - sounds a bit thin up top though. Has anyone got a convincing upper middle range piano patch yet? The music data patch is a monster on the low end. Maybe someone can start with it and take car of the treble. I have a nice B3 patch and beautiful high strings. Never thought you could get one - didja? So what I'm suggesting is creating a file that can be filled in with all the data for programming a given synth. It's a matter of taking the page out of the users manual and entering it into a file. Then we have a standard for filling in the blanks and posting or sending info for all of us to have fun with. Someday when the different MIDI computer interfaces standardize (don't hold your breath) we could send a file to be directly loaded into the synth. But in the meantime.... Patches will probably be most popular for the DX7, the Poly 800, the Poly 61, Juno106, DX9, and the Memorymoog. Any others out there? what do you think?

Patches are copyright just like other computer programs, I don't think we should be discussing pirating them here. If we want to trade our own, we can do that, but lets stay legal. In generall, the availabel patches are very reasonable. Yamaha puts out a whole ton with the DX PRO software, unfortunately the guy who wrote the software bugged out before they did it for any thing other than the Passport/Apple MIDI combination. The thing that causes unreasonable prices is the transfer medium. The ones available on RAM cartridges are way overpriced compared with what you can get for the various midi interfaces. Really, who wants to sit there with a bunch of cartridges, 32 voices at a time, looking for what you want. > I have a nice B3 patch and beautiful high strings. > Never thought you could get one - didja? > So lets trade our own. I'd be glad to have that one.

Yea Yea Yea. Let's trade patches. As far as net.music.guitar goes... /**** datacube:net.music / datacube!shep / 10:55 am Feb 23, 1985 ****/ Well, Ok, net.music.guitar, I guess... I'm not sure if there is really enough traffic to warrant it. Has network nerdism really progressed to where we want to quasi-publicly discuss UNIX drivers for the hardware interface to our Roland GR guitar controllers? Maybe it's not such a bad idea! I own a GR but can't bring myself to purchase the GR-700 synth. So I'm toying with the idea of a GR->68000 interface. Guitar controller in, MIDI out. Any other GR users? The Roland GR Guitar is an electric guitar designed with a hex pickup and front end electronics. A multiway cable carries the preamplified signals to a device, often a GR-700 guitar syntisizer, where the analogue signals are converted to digital signals. A MIDI out is provided. I for one dislike being locked into the the GR-700. I just want MIDI out and I'll do with it what I please, thank you. The GR-700 -lacks- a MIDI in, so forget recording your MIDI out performance and then playing it back. Would the precceding rap/abstract be suitable discussion in net.music.guitar; or would I be quickly vectored to .synth? Like, I don't know.. -shep. ima!inmet!mirror!datacube!shep Shep Siegel decvax!cca!mirror!datacube!shep Datacube Inc. decvax!genrad!wjh12!mirror!datacube!shep Peabody, Ma. {mit-eddie,cyb0vax}!mirror!datacube!shep
