[net.music.synth] Midi-Macintosh interfaces

Has anyone tried out the Musicworks Macintosh-MIDI interface and multi-track recording software described by
Nivak in net.music.synth last month? The package costs about $300, so I
(and undoubtedly others) would appreciate any comments, before I fork it
over, sight unseen. In particular, could I easily drive their hardware with
my own programs by straighforward serial drive calls?
I hear that Roland is coming out with a RS-232 interface,
but I imagine that will cost a few hundred for the hardware alone.

Are there any other possibilities for Macintosh-MIDI interface? The SCC must
be clocked externally, because when it is set at 1x clock to get 31.25K it
is prone to receive errors. I think the SCC requires 16x clock to adjust its
timing.
