[net.music.synth] KORG digital sampler

bcr@ccivax.UUCP (Barry Ruff) (04/30/85)

[Maybe this should be in net.rumors...]

Rumor has it that KORG has a new box out ( or at least soon ).
I only got sketchy details but what I heard sounds good:

A sequencer, with digital sampling capabilities.
		MIDI controlled, for under $600.

I didn't catch the sampling rate, but it is said to be able
to store a hair more than four seconds of data.

Can anyone confirm?? Anyone else heard about it?

p.s. Fender has come out with memory expansion for the
Polaris and a new set of 131 patches. Annoy your
	       nearest dealer.

Just to confirm the KORG digital sampler rumour, but with a slight variation:
I believe the reference was to the KORG SDD-2000 digital delay unit which
also performs digital sampling. I DID see one at a local music store, but
haven't really had a chance to try it yet.

What I know, is that it seems to allow for either 4 seconds of delay, or
4 seconds of sampling (depending on the mode). The sampled sound can
be controlled from a MIDI keyboard, but only produces mono output (no
simultaneous chorus sounds, for instance). I did hear a sampled voice
played back via MIDI control- it seemed like the sample length shortened
as the pitch increased. I think they could have kept the sample length
even, but you can't have everything. I didn't really get to try any of
the multitude of options, but I plan to go down there and really check
it out in the next couple of weeks.

List price is $695.
