I'm posting this for my friend Bob LeMieux. He is in the process of buying a used Synclavier that comes without a terminal. Apparently New England Digital wants exhorbitant sums of money for their terminal, which is supposed to be a VT100 with a DQ640M-00 graphics kit from Digital Engineering consisting of a CRT and a driver board. The resolution is 480 x 800 pixels, and NED calls it a "VT640". He put money down on a used VT100 with the intention of buying the graphics kit directly from Digital Engineering, but apparently they've gone Chapter 11. I've asked him if any VT100 compatible terminal with high-res graphics can be used and he says no, but doesn't know why. What he wants is a lead on a new or used DQ640M-00. What I would like is a description of how the terminal on the Synclavier interfaces with the rest of the system, what it controls, and why the system is supposedly dedicated to the "VT640" terminal.
