I have a complete collection of the Computer Music Journal. While there are still occassional good articles, the journal has gotten much "softer" in recent years. It has too many conference summaries, interviews with composers, and articles touting silly ideas about music composition. The balance between technical and musical articles seems to have been lost a few years back. I don't know whether to attribute this to the loss of John Strawn as an editor, or to the dearth of people submitting technical articles. Still, it is the only journal I've seen dedicated to computer music, and it provides a higher concentration of good articles than any other source. (The Journal of the Audio Engineering Society and the Acoustics Society of America Journal also have many good articles, but few have anything to do with computer music.) If you (or someone you know) has been doing research in computer music, I encourage you to submit an article to CMJ. I could use some more good reading. Kevin Karplus
