I have had the cheapo Fostex X-15 for over a year now and I am reasonably happy with it. It seems to be fine, especially when the price is taken into account. My only problems with my multitrack recording are: 1. There seems to be a lot of noise built up on the tape in the course of laying down several tracks, although it's supposed to have some kind of noise reduction system (I believe Dolby C) in effect. However, this could just be my other cheapo equipment. 2. Hitting the stop button tends to make the tape head drift backward on the tape without changing the tape counter. This can be annoying, but it's easily accounted for. It could be just due to the fact that I'm a rank amateur at this, but the X-15 is completely sufficient for all my recording purposes, so far at least. --Jamie.
