For those interested in "getting it from the horse's mouth", there is an interview with John Chowning in the Sept., and Oct. issues of the British magazine "Electronics & Music Maker". In the first part he talks about his own musical history, as well as the development of FM synthesis. The Oct. issue isn't available here yet, but apparently that part concerns "using FM to mimic grand pianos until musicians can't tell the difference, working with Dave Bristow, and the future of MIDI". It should be available at any good international book store.
