Subject; what's the minimum cost of a good MANY-track set-up? I'm not naive about synthesizers, but my current setup is not MIDI. And, it leaves a lot to be desired. I am considering a new setup and would like some suggestions. What I want - MANY tracks of digital-sampled instruments. The ability to mimic a decent sized orchestra. Screen/music-notation oriented editor. And be capable of storing long/dense sequences. MANY = at LEAST 32 tracks. I already have a Macintosh, so it would be nice if that were the PC involved in the final setup. Is 'Total Music' as good as the ads say? Anyone have it? I can't afford 10 mirages. Any other ways around this? Sync-to-tape? I am a good keyboardist, but don't care whether the setup has keys or not. Same for live performance. This is for home studio recording. Thanks for any suggestions. - Karl

Anyone have it? Yes, "total music" is great. It -IS- as the ads say it is. My opinion is heavily biased though. Think of "total music" as an enhanced version of Fairlight's "Page R". You can mail your specific questions about "total music" to (datacube!bills). > I can't afford 10 mirages. Any other ways around this? >Sync-to-tape? Gee, I love my Akai 612S sampler. If you are into midi-hacking, you can do a lot with it. Re sync-to-tape: See my posting a few weeks back about SMPTE code on a 4-track.
