Time for yap (yet another poll). I am looking at software to make my synthesizer more powerful, easier to use, and more fun. I would like to hear about any software products (commercial, freeware, whatever) that run on microcomputers that relate to 1) music sequencers 2) music editors 3) real time playing of songs, sequences 4) real time recording of midi input (e.g. from your keyboard) 5) librarian (song, patch, etc.) 6) music notation hardcopy output 7) other composition aids 8) anything else Send me facts, reviews, opinions, rumor, whatever. I will post a summary in a couple of weeks. I am especially interested (for me personally) in a single package that does at least (1), (2), (3), (4). I would then interface this to my other (to be written) programs (song generators, librarian for multi-trak, etc). Some packages I have seen advertised but not demoed (because local store hasn't gotten an IBMPC yet) are Texture (not all the features I want but ok price) and MPS (claims a lot, but I haven't had a chance to play with it). (I have an IBM PC). Another area of importance is being able to (easily?) convert from a text representation of a song (e.g. Jim Binkley's NotesScript representation or something similar) to the commercial program's format. I.e. does anyone know, for instance, the format of songs stored on disk by MPS? Thanks, Brad Hemminger decvax!mcnc!unc!bmh
