<I dont eat poles, only the lines> Michael Fingerhut has asked me to pass on the following request for a poll concerning the inclusion of net.music.classical/synth at IRCAM. As IRCAM is just the sort of organization that would enliven our discussions, I encourage all of you to participate in poll. (Besides all those phone calls help to pay my research salary -:). ++++++++ MF's message +++++++++ ========================================================================= This is a poll for people interested in seeing IRCAM and other European sites receive, and hence participate, in the discussions in these two groups, which are currently not forwarded to Europe. Would the people who are in favor please send a note to that effect to mcvax!piet, who is in charge of deciding which newsgroups get forwarded to Europe (and a copy to me, ircam!mf, if at all possible). I am doing a similar poll in Europe, for I understand that if there is "enough" interest, we may convince the authorities to distribute them in Europe. At IRCAM, the French research institute for acoustics and music, under the direction of composer/conductor Pierre Boulez, there are scores of people whose *professional* (and personal, too) interest lies in both groups. Our work spans many domains, from the technical-- such as the 4X (an all-digital computerized real-time synthesizer), FORMES (a high level, object oriented language for music synthesis), midi interfaces, interactive score editing, acoustics--to the musical: composition, performance (the Ensemble Intercontemporain). And much more. Many people directly involved in the technical areas are musicians (performers or composers) themselves. As long as neither group is forwarded to Europe, we are prevented from taking part in the ongoing discussions. Help us, speak up for us. Thanks, --Michael Fingerhut
