A while back someone posted a request for leads on RS-232/MIDI interface devices. The response was underwhelming, so I'll reiterate the request. Since I have a DEC PRO-350 (don't laugh), and have no reason to believe anyone will ever build a MIDI interface for it, I would like to know if I can buy an off-the-shelf RS-232/MIDI converter. ANY leads at all will be appreciated. Likewise, since I may have to build one myself, I would also appreciate advice about that rewarding activity. Thanks! I don't know offhand who might sell such an animal, but if I were in your shoes, I would immediately get in touch with J.L. Cooper electronics in California (you can find their ads in Keyboard Magazine). They are real experts at MIDI applications and hardware interfaces.

Hinton Instruments 168 Abington Rd. Oxford OX1 4RA England Sells just such a device in two versions, with a 2Kbuffer and with a 10K buffer at roughly $300 and $360 respectively. If you find no-one in your vicinity who carries it send me E-mail via: {apple, dual, ptsfa, hplabs, netisun}!well!djg good luck, djg
