From: Campbell.SV@Xerox.ARPA Since my previous message went to net-music instead of net-music-synth, due to my ignorance of net-dom, let me try this again: Just got a RX-15 drum machine from Yamaha. Does anyone know if it is possible to dump and load patterns and songs via the MIDI interface and if so, how? By the way, other than the silly cassette interface, I really like this thing. It sounds as good as any of the other machines I have heard. About it's only draw back is that the sounds are not tunable but at my level this does't matter. By the other way, does anyone have any recomendations on keyboard amps for home use? Anybody like or hate the Roland cube units? Thanks, Rick 'should have learned to read music when I was a kid' Campbell

From what I understand, the rx15 along with most of Yamaha's other top line system equipment, can dump its patches onto diskette using the qx1 sequencer and its' disk drive....this would imply that the system exclusive info is available through the midi port. As far as a small amp, check out the Galien-Krueger mkb-200.

Both the RX11 and RX15 drum machines from Yamaha are capable of midi upload/download of patterns and songs. You need to select the SYS INFO AVAIL mode(s) and transmit/receive the appropriate codes. Unfortunately the the RX11/15 manuals were written in the "older" Yamaha style, and unlike the newer QX7 and TX7 manuals, do -not- contain the Yamaha exclusive format listing. Jim Smerdel at Yamaha has given the IMA most of the Yamaha format sheets explaining the exclusive messages. So just ask IMA for the format sheets. p.s. It -does- work!
