[net.music.synth] Yamaha CX5M music comp. can now be slaved in MIDI

gyuri@cvl.UUCP (Gyorgy Fekete) (01/15/86)

Good news to cx5m owners (both of them; there doesn't seem to much discussion
going on about the Music Computer...).

Anyway, I just talked to "Kevin", a chap at the Technical assitance section of
the Combo Division of Yamaha, Intl., and I was told that some upgrades,
accessories and software are coming out "next week" (I heard that before):

	1) Upgrade for CX5M which allows you to slave the machine to ext.
MIDI control, and some other things too (don't know what the others
	   are yet).
	2) Disk drive will be available in the US,
	3) Some additional software on cartridges, e.g.:
chord teaching, (probably some ear training stuff)
		MIDI sequencer,
		DX-9 voicing program
some kind of program to drive DX-21
		... some others I forgot....

	   on casette:
		Voices for CX5M

I at one time started to write a Z80 program to slave the CX5M, but I must
admit it is doomed to instant obsolesence by virtue of the hardware upgrade.
A company called "Eddy Rental" does hardware upgrades for $55, according
to Kevin. I never heard of this company.

If you have useful information on the CX5M, and ways to upgrade, I will
thank you for sharing it.

A good investment of $10 is the technical service manual for the Cx5m, which
contains important technical information for making your programs get close
to the hardware.

Cheers:
