I am posting the following for a friend. You can contact him directly or post or mail to me and I will forward. ---------- I am interested in finding out about the Deluxe Music Construction Set by Electronic Arts. From the advertising it appears to be better than both Musicworks and Concertware and is very reasonably priced. Can anyone give me some first-hand information about it? How does it compare to the above in terms of compositional flexibility, playback, printing, etc.? Does anyone have experience with the MIDI software that can be purchased for it (by Assimilation, I believe)? How does it compare with Concertware+? Does it seem to be a good choice for someone interested in expanding (gradually) to a full Macintosh/MIDI editor/synth setup? Much thanks for any information. -Andy Schirmer Computer Corporation of America 4 Cambridge Center Cambridge, Ma. 02142 (617) 492-8860 ----------- -- Larry Schmitt Computer Corporation of America larry@cca 4 Cambridge Center decvax!cca!larry Cambridge, MA 02142 (617)-492-8860

Deluxe Music Construction Set is (almost) everything that Electronic Arts' advertising claims it is, although I feel that they lay on the hype a bit too thickly. I've used the program for over two months to drive a Casio CZ-5000 synthesizer. It's great! Using your mouse, you build a piece of sheet music on the Mac screen (a good grasp of music noti[Dation is essential) and either your Mac or the MIDI synth you've attached to it plays the piece! I have had occasional problems with DMCS 'hiccoughing' during MIDI playback and system errors when undoing sluirs[D[D[Drs, but when I compare these bugs against those of much more expensive programs, I have to admit that DMCS is the best deal going. I also understand that Electronic Arts is working on a sequencer to go with DMCS and expects to release it di[During the 1st half of 1986. I highly recommend DMCS (and would at 3 times the $50 list price). -- One town looks very like another / with your head down over your pieces, brother. ---from "One Night in Bangkok" Steve Schlich, MicroPro Product Development {dual,hplabs,glacier,lll-crg}!well!micropro!kepler!steves
