If you are an artist of ANY kind, or a musician of ANY kind, in Massachusetts, then you should write to The Artists Foundation 110 Broad Street Boston, MA 02110 They will send you a questionnaire, and when they get it back from you, your name will be put on arts/grants/artists services junk mail mailing lists. Here's from their brochure: the Artists Foundation A Massachusetts statewide, public, non-profit organization whose purpose since 1973 has been to enhance the careers of artists. The Foundation offers assistance in public presentation, acquisition of living and working space, training and support services, while fostering a sense community among artists. [they left out words, not me] ARTISTS SERVICES LAWYERS AND ACCOUNTANTS FOR THE ARTS Professionals who volunteer or discount their services to artists. ARTISTS SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM The foundation serves as fiscal manager and sponsoring organization for selected artists with innovative, long-term projects. ARTISTS HEALTH PROJECT A program that educates artists about art materials that are hazardous to their health and alternatives for safe use. A collaborative effort with Dr. Jeremy Nobel. (Laurie Anderson had to quit using Plexiglas (the map of the U.S. is several layers of Plexiglas)) ARTISTS BUSINESS COURSE A semester-long course to promote a better business sense and entrepreneurial spirit among artists. It is usually offered through a sponsoring university or cultural organization. PUBLICATIONS A variety of materials available to artists which offer information related to business, health and presentation. THE BOSTON GLOBE SCHOLASTIC ART AWARDS The administration of a scholarship contest for students in grades 7-12. Awards are in the visual arts. ARTISTS EMERGENCY LOAN PROGRAM A newly developing program which will offer temporary, low-interest loans for emergency situations. Supported in part by the Annual Artists' Ball Benefit. FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM ANNUAL GRANTS Over $425,000 is awarded annually to more than 100 fellows and finalists in 18 categories of visual, performing, literary, environmental and media arts Judging is by jury process and is based strictly on merit. MINORITY OUTREACH A campaign to increase the participation of artists of color in the fellowship and service programs including Technical Assistance for Professional Services. PROMOTION AND PRESENTATION materials and services designed to publicize efforts and works of the fellows and finalists, including a slide registry, mailing lists, brochures, art exchanges, performances, and exhibits. This service includes, Catch a Rising Star, periodic publicity, campaigns focused on fellowship recipients throughout the year. FUNDING Funding comes in part from the Massachusetts Council on the Arts and Humanities, The National Endowment for the Arts, private foundations, corporations and individuals.
