[net.music.synth] Roland synths. and MIDI docs

Hi, 
	I am just getting into synthesized music, and as such, this is
my first posting to net.music.synth.

	I have never owned a synthesizer before, and I am currently looking
at the Roland 'Alpha Juno-2' and the 'SynthPlus 60'.  I would like to get
some opinions on these, and maybe even some pointers in the right direction
for a first synthesizer.

	Also, being an engineering/computer science type, I am particularly
interested in the MIDI interface.   Is there any available documentation
on the MIDI interface and protocol??
