At last look, quite a few Toms were showing up on the used market-dunno why. Their ability to play samples backwards is pretty grand, and the tunability turns out to be quite a boon to persons like me You tune the snare down really low to get Megazilla playing jackhammers on your "fake punk" commercials, etc. Also, the Latin Percussion cartridge is OUTSTANDING. Great timbales. If it's a bargain, hey. Let the rich have the cutting edge while the proletariat teaches the boxes new tricks. Of course, I don't think *I* qualify as a prole. I sample all my percussion into the beat-up Electro Harmonix Super Replay and mangle it on my EH 16 second digital delay. It works fine for Moroccan trance-drumming, thanks. Or I did until the 16-second fried last week. Until it's fixed I'm trying to figure out how to program a good Sho (Japanese mouth harp) on the boxes. So hey....my biases aside (and you know what they are now), the Tom has some idiosyncratic features that might make it interesting to you if your interest is in matching technology to idiosyncracy. Mine sho is.
