I dare say personal squabbles aren't unique to _Indian_ teams. If we could
only keep petty politics out of our sports! The spectacle over Kapil Dev's
omission in the recent test at Calcutta (I forget the name of the bigwig
who proposed K.D. be retained as the 15th. member of the team, and backed
off only when most of the board of selectors threatened to resign!)
would've been funny if it hadn't been so embarrassing. The same
regionalism pervades the hockey scene. And we're treated to the sight of
gifted athletes like P.T.Usha and Sriram Singh unable to compete in
international meets for lack of funds while managers and assorted fat cats
wangle series after series of "phoren" tours for themselves! (I guess I'd
better stop before I have to consign this to net.flame :-)
