Re.: SPY SCANDAL IN INDIA > I was in India when the spy scandal broke. This is not true. The copies of top secret documents seized by the police from the houses of the arrested men included: details of India's defence strategy, arms purchases, diplomatic pursuits, technology transfer agreements, economic deals and nuclear capabilities. Also included was the country's cipher codes that were being used to send messages to and from Indian diplomatic missions. The Govt. seems to be gravely concerned about this particular leak. Another important document that was stolen was a detailed plan of India's strategy in the event of an attack by Pakistan. Obviously, these documents are of great interest to countries like Pakistan. Another Related News Item: -------------------------- Six Pakistani soldiers were killed when Indian Defence personnel repulsed an attack to capture Siachen Glacier in Ladakh in the first week of January. The well organized assault by Pakistan's elite Special Services Group was, however, beaten back in a three day fierce battle. This was the third organized offensive in recent days by Pakistan to grab the glacier. However, all three times they retreated with heavy casualties. Mohan Palat ( ihnp4!alberta!mohan )
