This is to satisfy the curiosity of cricket lovers out there, deficient in news about the world cup...... There are two leagues with windies, lankans and kiwis in one and india england australia and pakistan in the other group. India is the only team to have won all the group matches, because the first match of windies in their group was a washout and they were awarded a loss [don't ask me why! this is from times of India feb, 25th edition] India [as many of you know from redirected postings from iitnet] has won against kiwis in semifinals and is slated to play with the winner of the other sf between windies and pakistan, which was played yesterday night (no details as yet). some consistent highlights of the series from indian side were impress- ve bowling by sivaramkrishnan and kapil's return to form (in the latest semifinal clash with kiwis, he made 54 in 30 balls!!) VOICES: "don't ask me about the indian cricket's future. i can under- stand how that can be your major concern, but please under- stand that it is none of mine. MY ONLY PROBLEM WITH THE WHOLE SERIES HAD BEEN WITH THE TELEPHONE OPERATORS" -david gower (English captain) (in an interview after the test series win against india) (excerpted from India today us edition more or LESS verbatim) "Indians invariably play (cricket) well abroad than in India This is because there is no psychological stress of booing spectators whenever a player misses a shot and thus the players are more relaxed." -Sunil Gawaskar (captain Indian team) (after crushing england by 86 runs in the world cup and effectively throwing them out of contention) (source times of india ) -- Arpa: rao@cvl
