From the Wall Street Journal, Asian Report, March 28: "India's Computer Exhibition is Hit" Computer Show in India brings together homw-grown technology and imported wizardry. The exhibition, which attracted throusands of visitors earlier this month in New Delhi, was the big event of the year for the Indian industry and illustrates the country's rapidly developing interest in computers. Among those represented at the show were IBM, HP, and Bombay-based International Data Management Ltd. "It looks like this government really wants to put the country on the fast track", says the manager of an Indian computer concern. Last week the government announced a policy for electronics manufacturing that aims to create a $7.9 billion domestic industry by 1990. Many Western companies are confident that India will succeed. Convention participants said this year's foreign presence was far greater than in the past.
