	I have heard that he was considered by the nobel prize selection
	committee for a nobel prize in peace a few years before India attained
	independence; but the committee felt it prudent not to award him
	one since that might make Britain look bad. Some apparantly
	even felt that it would be an insult to Britain if Gandhi was
	awarded a prize and might slow down or hamper India's fight for
	independence by inducing Britain to take a tougher stand against
	India.
