Dear IITNET member,

I am writing this letter on behalf of the IIT Madras Alumni Assn. of
North America. I graduated from IIT Madras in 1980.

We are planning on a reunion in Houston during the Thanksgiving
Weekend later this year. The details of this reunion are described in the
copy of the letter that we sent to 450 of our alumni. In addition, we are
asking about 850 Indian grocery and saree stores, Indian travel agencies and
Indian newspapers, magazines, radio stations and TV stations around the
continent to publicize our reunion.

Although we are concentrating only on IITM alumni at present, we have
plans of working with other IIT alumni as well in the near future.

We welcome your comments and suggestions. Please forward your replies
by US-MAIL to the address given below. You may also wish to contact volun-
teers by phone. Thank you.

							Sincerely,

							Kannan Moudgalya
							IITM graduate, 1980

COPY OF A LETTER TO OUR ALUMNI:

		 INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, MADRAS
 		  ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF NORTH AMERICA

		2111 Holly Hall #1649, Houston, TX 77054

Dear Alumnus/Alumna,

Twenty years ago, about 200 graduates left the serene campus of I.I.T.
Madras to embark on diverse careers and fulfill their personal dreams and
ambitions. Over twenty classes have graduated since then. At last count, over
700 of these individuals have settled in North America. This represents an
enormous resource. In our travels, we have had the opportunity to meet a few
and reminisce a lot.

In these meetings, it became evident that we all share a common past -
a love of our country; five or more years of staying together and coping with
the good and not so good; a will to succeed, compete and excel; and a desire
to help each other. We have the opportunity to use these strengths to build
a bridge between the experience and knowledge gained by us in the West with
our friends and colleagues in the East -- a bridge that can help translate
and transfer technology in the most cost-effective and optimum way, or help
the new graduates from I.I.T. settle into their careers, or help each other
broaden skills and share our experience. These are just a few ideas that
barely skim the range of possibilities.

In order that we may share these opportunities, we hope to have a
get-together, a reunion of all graduates who are currently here. When we
pooled our resources from various alumni around the continent, it became clear
that such a reunion was indeed feasible this year in Houston. We solicit your
company at this reunion scheduled for 29-30th of November 1985 (Thanksgiving
Weekend). Please see enclosed a list of planned activities and the alumni who
have volunteered to make this get-together a success.

The activities listed are but a few of the many possible events. We
hope to expand them with your helpful suggestions. It will also be helpful
if you pass on this information to your interested friends.

				Regards.
