In the July 8th issue of Time Magazine there is a detailed report on immigrants to the US over the last few years. Time mentions that Indians are the second most affluent (in terms of annual income) immigrant group (first are the Japanese). There is a picture of an incredible queue for visas at the Delhi US consulate and some talk of the excellence of students from IIT. In an ethnic distribution map of New York City, the Jackson Heights and Flushing areas of Queens are shown to be the centers of Indian population in that region (quite obvious to anyone who has been there). The report is well worth reading. Sivan Mahadevan Computer Science Laboratory The Aerospace Corporation Los Angeles ARPA: sivan@aerospace UUCP: sivan@aero.uucp BELL: 213-648-6677

Does anyone know of the Statistics on the Indian Populations in the U.S., Canada, Britain, and Africa? Like what percentage are doctors or engineers and what percent carry doctorate degrees and master's degrees. I was told in the US, that Indians have the most in PhD programs. Anyone heard that? The populations in Canada and Britain should have lower percentage of 'educated' Indians since many came during the British Raj (or for mohan@sbcs "during the British Colonial Period in Bharat [India]") :-) Sunil Trivedi P.O.
