HCL to manufacture optical fibre in India

The public sector Hindustan Cables Ltd. has embarked on a
project to manufacture optical fibre, which will be able
to transmit 2000 telephone calls at a time. The capital
cost of this project is put at 28.63 crores (Rs) with a
foreign exchange component of 12.42 crores.
Optical fibre has very low electromagnetic interference,
is very compact and has very less cross-talk. It is expected
to replace all coaxial cables and considerably improve
the quality of telecommunications in India.
