Just heard on the radio that the Sikh leader who signed the peace accord with Govt. of India has been assasinated. The radio was silent about the name. *I assume it was Sant Harachand Singh Longowal.* I am sick and mad at people who justify killing in the name of religion. For those who harbour aspirations of an independent nation carved out of India, they can learn a lesson from the not too old history of India. We always lost our liberty and freedom when ever we split up in smallar states. It is very easy to hate. It takes bigger heart to put personal grief and interests aside and rise to greater interests. To my simple mind, Harachand Singh Longowal rose above the ordinary when he showed courage to negotiate. I'm sure he knew of the risks involved. May he rest in peace. August 20, 1985 -- Deepak S.
