This is an excerpt from an article that appeared in the Oct'85 IEEE Design & Test. " TI has announced plans to open a new CAD software facility in Bangalore, India to develop proprietary software for IC design. TI (India) Private,Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of TI and will be the firm's first permanent facility in the Asia-pacific area. The center is scheduled to open in April 1986. Approx. 50 engineers from the Bangalore area will receive six months of training in the US and England before the new facility op opens. The new company represents a $3M to $5M investment for TI and will have a satellite receiving station for direct communication with the US and England. All software developed there will be shipped to the US for worldwide distribution to other TI operations. Selection of the Bangalore area was "a strategic move to establish TI's presence in the Asia-Pacific area because of the projected high growth rate for the electronics business there through the 1990's." Robert Rozeboom, a TI vice-president, praised the quality of India's educational system in comparison to those in surrounding countries, noting that "the availability of about 20,000 graduates a year in the sciences offers a great potential, and many of them are currently underemployed." Bangalore is considered by many to be the center of electronics activity in India." Jayaram Kalpathy. ucbvax!amdcad!jayaram
