Since this msg is fairly lengthy, a hard copy might help.
It contains a lot of details.

		ANNOUNCEMENT 1.0
		-----------------

I am posting this message on behalf of the organizers of the
First IITM Alumni get-together at HOUSTON during the Thanksgiving Weekend.

The Alumni association was formed 3-4 years ago and this is the first time
that such a get-together has been arranged. The Association has tax-exempt
status for the donations it receives towards causes mentioned below.

Goals::

-> Donate 25 PCs to IIT Madras.

-> Possibly arrange Technical Meetings for exchange of know-how etc..

-> + picnic, eats, visit to NASA etc.

The cultural and social events for the HOUSTON get-together are not yet
finalized.

********************************************************************
The aim of this announcement is

+-> to inform people about the event. (In case U did not hear earlier)

+-> to request people to give their names/addresses/telephone numbers/
electronic mail addresses to the names mentioned below.
A database would be very useful whenever such an event needs to be
announced. I have a list of about 500 people with me, sorted by year
of graduation. However, it is outdated and several names are not on
the list. Even if you have given your name already, please do so,
once again. It is estimated that there are 2000 IITM alumni in N.America
and Canada. As I mentioned, only 500 addresses are known and most of them
    are incorrect.

Note: your address can be made public to all IITM graduates.
If you have any objections to that, please refrain from
	  sending your address.

+-> to request people to publicize this event by
    .... informing others.
(Very few people read the net. Also, avid net readers are
primarily students. We need to spread the word to many people
	 in the industry).
So, please spread the word. Several of my friends
were very glad to hear about the PC donation.

+-> to request financial contributions for buying PCs.
The organizers have indicated that donations ranging from
   $100, $500, $1000 and $1000+ are acceptable.
When I pointed out that it may not be feasible for members of the
student community to make huge contributions, the organizers pointed
out that ANY financial contribution would be welcome !

** You can claim tax-deduction for your contributions.
(You do NOT have to make the HOU trip to donate) !!!!!

My personal opinion....If a person would like to donate and has the
financial backing, the person can contribute his might.
Just convince yourself, folks...All of us have wanted to do SOMETHING
for IIT Madras ever since we got here, but did not know how to go about it.

I feel, we cannot let this opportunity go by...

** The goal is $100,000 Let's see what we come up with.

***************************************************************************
I have some official fliers for the event in Houston and the PC donation.
If you are interested, please send mail/call/write to one of the addresses
given below.

For those of you who are in a University...
It would be nice if ONE person from each UNIV volunteers to
receive the fliers from me and take the trouble of distributing
copies to that local community & their friends. I am aware that
IITians cannot reach a consensus easily, but I will hope for the best.
***************************************************************************

Once again, I wish to emphasize,
    PLEASE SPREAD the WORD...
PLEASE let us know your address/tel number..

On an average, about 100 IITM graduates come to the US every year.
Each one of you can contribute to the cause by spreading the message to
your friends.
Thanks folks....

I am looking forward to your positive responses/suggestions.
