[net.nlang.india] Divorce amongst Americans

muppala@sunybcs.UUCP (Shankar Muppala) (11/05/85)

* It was a good to have views about dowry from an American Lady.
I am referring to article <5107@amdcad.uucp> by Linda Seltzer.
It may be a good idea to talk about divorce amongst Americans
along with the divorce issue. It will provide different topics for
discussion.

I had an American friend who got divorced because he and his
wife could not agree on the color of the drapes. What do situations
like these imply?

I disagree. I look at this group as a forum to find topics of interest
to "Desi Janata". I think topics such as above do not belong here.
I also object to stereotyping any group of people.

Please, let's keep this group Indian.

I think it just means nothing. I do not deny that Americans
probably are #1 (world cahmpions) in this area (divorce) too.
But there are very significant % of marriages which are quite
traditional (conservative). The level of tolerance no doubt
among people here in matter relating to private affairs is
low. I don't think that it is proper to generalise. Do you
know the even among Indian couples in US. the divorce rate
runs to about 10 to 15%. We Indians are catching up real fast
with our amercian friends in this aspect. *** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR MESSAGE ***
