Attn: Indians in the Southern California Region ----------------------------------------- Gurupurb (Guru Nanak's birth anniversary) will be celebrated at the L.A. convention center (downtown) on 11/30/85. You are invited to attend. A copy of the flyer announcing the function (minus the graphics) appears at the end of this posting. A WORD ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS OF THIS FUNCTION (Really a Pitch for Attendance) Normally, there should be no need for anyone to "vouch" for the credentials of people organizing functions such as these. But the fact is, that there is some room for confusion: A rival group is also celebrating Gurupurb, also at the L.A. Convention Center, but on *11/24/85*. From what I understand, this rival group has "certain radical political leanings" (That's a code phrase. Read "Pro-Khalistani") and seeks to promote the same at their function. So I don't want the organizers of the 11/30 function being confused with the 11/24 radicals, nor do I want any readers of this announcement to go to the 11/24 function by mistake. I am personally acquainted with at least two of the 11/30 organizers, and they are both Southern California Sikhs, and over the past year have been actively organizing and campaigning *in the cause of India's unity*. The organizers of the 11/30 function promise to make the event a non-political one. I strongly recommend that any Indian in the area who has the time, and believes as I do that a great portion of India's problems are due to a lack of communication between the various communities, attend the function. Even if you aren't swayed by all that heavy stuff, hey, look, Nanak was a great and wise soul, undoubtedly one of the greatest Indians of all time; the function is non-political; I expect there to be a lot of good fellowship and very little (if any) sermonizing; you can't beat the outstanding (free) Indian "lunch", which I am told will be served *all day* starting 11 a.m. So be there!
