[net.nlang.india] Idli / dosai grinders

How does one grind flour for idli and dosai? The problem appears to be unique
to South Indian cuisine because it involves grinding a slurry of dry legumes /
rice in water. In North America, one can buy dry grinders (e.g. to grind
flour from grain) and meat grinders, but I haven't been able to find a good
wet grinder. One can use a blender, but this is very tedious because one can
grind only small quantities at a time and that too only slowly, since blender
motors are not heavy duty. My sister's solution was to import (from India) an
electric idli stone grinder, but that is VERY heavy and hard to transport.
Also, spare parts would be hard to come by here. Please reply by mail, and I
will summarize if there is anything worth saying.
