Mr. Thomas Anantharaman's argument for marriage laws based on religion, sect etc. was good, but what if someone wants to appeal against them, as this Muslim woman has done? Should we then allow the religious laws to govern the verdict, or should we bring in the laws of common society? I feel that a Muslim is as much pained by injustice as a Hindu or Christian, and that it is society's duty to ensure justice for him/her under such circumstances irrespective or race, religion or creed. To this end, the Supreme Court ruling was a landmark event. The Muslim fundamentalist enclave may have negated the woman's personal courage, but it certainly has not taken the drive out of the women and civil liberties societies who fought so hard to see that justice prevailed.
