                     Sports Scene- Feb 25 to March 3, 1986

1)  West  Indies  won  first  cricket  test  against touring English team by 10
wickets at Kingstan Jamaica. The match was over in one hour less than  3  days.
Scores:

England 159 and 152; WI 307 and 5 for no loss

2)  Pakistan  defeats Srilanka by 8 wickets at Kandy in Srilanka in first 1 day
international:

Srilanka 124/6 (23 ov); Pakistan 125/2 (21.3 overs) Mohsin Khan 59

3) Aussies Kiwis first test ended in  a  rain  abondoned  draw  at  Wellington,
Newzealand.

4) Kapil Dev has been reappointed captain for the next summer's tour of England
and for the 1 day series to be played in SHARJAH and in Srilanka before that.

5) Pakistan won first test match against Srilanka at Kandy by an innings and 20
runs.  The  match involved a temporary walkout by Umpires and Srilankan Batsmen
after a verbal abuse of a Srilankan Batsman  by  close  in  Pakistani  fielders
after a disputed decision.

Scores:

Srilanka 109; Pakistan 230 and Srilanka 101 in that order.

6)  6th  Hockey  test  match  between Pakistan and India of the current 7 match
series ended in a 2-2 draw at Sargodha  in  Pakistan  leaving  the  the  series
balanced  at  two  matches  each.  Scorers-  Farhat Hussain (pak), Mohinder Pal
Singh, Hasan Sardar (pak) and Mohinder Pal Singh in that order.

7) Hasan Sardar the current Pak Hockey captain  and  one  of  the  best  center
forwards  in  the  world announced his intention of retiring from international
hockey after the current series against India. HS made his debut  for  Pakistan
in  1978  at  Barcelona world cup in Spain. He scored 130 goals for Pakistan in
143 internationals.

8) India clinches the 7 match Hockey series against Pakistan beating them by  a
margin of 2-1 at Karachi in the 7th match.

Scorers:  Hasan  Sardar  (pak 9th minute), M P Singh (12th min; Penalty Corner)
and Joachim Carvelho (45th min; Penalty Stroke).
