First cricket test match between India and Australia ended today in a historic result - a tie. This is only the 2nd time in the history of test matches that a test has ended in a draw. Australia had tied the only other test match with West Indies in 1960 (I think). Scores : Australia - (1st innings) ~574 for 6 decl. India - (1st innings) 397 all out. Australia - (2nd innings) ~170 for 5 decl. India - (2nd innings) 347 all out Australia declared their 2nd innings before play on the 5th day and set a challenging total of 348 for India with the entire 5th day's play remaining (330 min. in India). For India, Gavasker scored 90, Srikant 30+, Amarnath ~50, Shastri 40+ not out. India had 4 wickets in hand with just 17 runs to win. Maninder Singh was the last man out with just one ball to go in the match. Maninder was at the crease for only two balls. Australian captain Alan Border said after the match that he was extremely relieved by the result and that he did not expect India to play so well. I am sure this test match will be remembered for a long long time. Congratulations to the Indian time for a memorable performance. Source : BBC Sports. -Naresh Shah. P.S. India drew the 1st Hockey match with Korea 1-1 at the Seoul Asiad.
