[net.sources.mac] Fedit V2.1 Documentation

supp@sphinx.UChicago.UUCP (Steve Upp) (02/26/85)

This is documentation for version 2.1 of Fedit. I downloaded this from
Compuserve recently.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the change documentation for version 2.1 of Fedit. This version
is a maintenance update to version 2.0 of the program. The following
changes have been made to the program:

1. Fedit now works correctly with Hyperdrive drawers that are closed and
    reopened repeatedly.

2. Now works correctly with with version 2 of the Tecmar hard disk
driver. Fedit now tests for and recognizes Tecmar hard disks and
compensates for the incorrect setup of the Macintosh drive queue by
    this driver.

3. Now works correctly with all versions of the Corvus hard disk driver.
Some earlier versions of this driver did not set up the drive queue
entries correctly. The latest version of the Corvus driver is correct.

4. Now works correctly with all known RAMdisk programs. Some problems
with the Volume Control Block queue of the Assimilation Process
    RAMDisk software have been detoured.

5. An error in the search command which resulted in Fedit failing to find
Hex and Ascii strings that started in the last character of a sector
and finished in the next sector has been corrected.

6. Some minor improvements to error messages and handling of certain
obscure disk error conditions have been made.

7. A command to set the end of file pointer in the disk header has been
    added.

8. The handling of the backspace character in Ascii modify mode has been
changed by popular demand. Instead of inserting a backspace ($08)
character into the text, the sector cursor (the small blinking black
box) will be moved backwards in the text by one position.

9. The front page has been changed to indicate that the program is not
to be sold (as was happening recently at the San Francisco Macworld
show), and that the front page must not be removed (as has been the
case on at least one bulletin board and some user groups).

The disk file recovery feature has been delayed because of an illness
that required surgery. I expect this feature to be included in the next
release.
