Although the name I have chosen for this DA is perhaps a poor
one (too similar to 'Switcher,' with which it has nothing in
common), I find it to be extremely useful. Switch changes
the copy of the Finder's name in low memory, such that when
you quit the current application, the application of your
choice will be invoked.
When you select 'Switch' from the Desk Accessory Menu, a tiny
window will be put up in the upper-right corner of your screen:
the window contains the name of the application which will be
invoked when you quit the current application (which will usually
be 'Finder'). Switch also puts up a menu which contains the
names of all applications on the current system disk: when you
select an application name from that menu, Switch will copy the
name into the low-memory Finder Name location, and then close itself.
When you quit the current application, the selected application
will be started up.
Caveats:
1) If the application you select has a name longer than 15 characters,
Switch will just leave the current Finder name alone (there is
only room for a 15 character name in low memory).
2) As mentioned above, only applications on the current System disk
will appear in the Switch menu.
