[net.news.stargate] X-rated messages on Galaxy-1

djw@lanl.ARPA (02/23/85)

I own a satellite reciever.

I am an amateur radio operator. I feel that a little more knowledge about
what is on the satellites may help make this discussion more realistic.

On almost any evening I can watch any of three versions of "dirty movies".
I watched "The Story of 'O'"; I missed "Debbie does Dallas"; and I've
not bothered to watch hundreds of XXX-rated pointless movies. I have
been amused by the thought that millions of innocent "born-again" bigots
are being "beamed" by microwaves of "Deep Throat". Certain services,
(i.e. The Playboy Channel) advertise their "soft" nature, their "family-
fare" image... (Playboy does not show penetration or sperm). You may
turn over to another transponder and see the same movies with the camera
angle just a little different and see penetration and jism on the chin...
depends on what you want.

Now then, girls and boys, in light of the above TRUE observations of
the type of stuff already on the satellite service, what type of
censorship are you requesting? I have seen The Mahareshi exhorting his
followers; A man in a chair getting millions of dollars in contributions
because of his particular views on Christianity; Live shots of the
aftermath of bombings in Jerusalem; Arty movies in stereo with simulated
( acted out, not real ) rapes, including penetration and jism; Mangled
bodies (not cut out by the local news staff); and too much etcetera to
talk about here. Go to a sleazy hotel with a satellite dish and ask
them for a schedule of movies. They will be happy to tell you what
they are showing...

About libel I know nothing, but I'll bet that If I were to libel someone
that someone here at Los Alamos National Laboratories could prove that
it was me (or my account) and I would be responsible for the consequences.

When Stargate comes on-line, I'll be able to tie my microcomputer to my
general coverage shortwave receiver to my satellite receiver and "receive"
usenet. I may have to decrypt something or other, but I suspect that
the hardware is going to become generally available ( since that's the
stated purpose of the experiment ). Lauren cleared up some of my
misconceptions about posting to stargate, but there is still the thought
in my mind that no matter what "earthly" gateway you install, it will
be accessible to almost any(knowledgeable)one with a UNIX(tm) operating
system on his micro. Actually, almost anyone who has "C" and access
to the sources of one of the postnews programs can play.

So be realistic people... Who censors what? And why? Because your
Christian morality clashes with her Moslem values. Ask a moslem lady
to define pornography, you'll be quite surprised!
