Thanks to all who viewed the Portland Stargate demo. Though the cable feed provided by the hotel was horrible, we managed to get the demo working without too much difficulty. One problem with hotels is that they (unlike cable systems) tend to never get complaints from their patrons about their TV service (since who is going to be there long enough to care anyway in most cases?) and they thusly don't service their equipment properly. However, even with the lousy feed, we got decent data reception. The demo decoder didn't have error correction--while the production level system will--so all things considered I'm very satisfied with the results. The decoder/demod used at the demo are now on their way to Hawaii for testing at the outer edge of the satellite reception area. Another decoder will be heading to CUNY in New York City shortly. Special thanks to the entire gang from Tektronix who brought out literally a fortune in broadcast quality video gear to let us show the video signal visually to the attendees. Their help made the demo much more professional than it otherwise could have been and was greatly appreciated! --Lauren--
