[net.games.hack] hack scoring

jwb@ritcv.UUCP (John Baker) (04/16/85)

Hey all you hackers!,
I had a great game going with about 8000 gold
and over 5000 experience points. The game says
the approximate scoring is 5 times the experience
plus 1 times the gold. However in this game I got
about 11,000 points. I sold some things to shopkeepers,
and quaffed a gain level or two, does this have anything
to do with it?

I'm told that you only get points for "real" EP earned, so gain levels and
dead wraiths don't help your score directly.

Another hack suggestion: Instead of quitting, you commit suicide
(and possibly leave a ghost). Also, how about some " Boots of Water-Walking"?
Another thing that could be added would be to be able to throw potions at
monsters, and if the potion breaks on it, the potion affects it! (That gives
potions of blindness useful).

If I remember correctly, Rogue on the PC does this. It's great (and also
makes a lot of sense)! I believe PC-Rogue is based on version 5.3, but
I'm not sure.

I also had a great game going with about 40000+ gold and over a million
experience points but my score was still only:

Number Points Name Hp [max]
  1 341286 drseuss-W escaped the dungeon [max level 28]. 175 [175]

So, I'm positive the scoring doesn't give you 5 times the experience points.
However, I am not sure about how gold and other things are scored.
It would be interesting to know how the game calculates your points though...

I like this idea! I've tried throwing dangerous potions at monsters,
but they never even hit.

While we're at it, how about flasks of oil for molotov cocktails? The
Tourist could be started with a flask of suntan oil...

Actually, that would make potions of poison useful since potions of blindness
are already quite useful. (eg, you've just eaten a floating eye and you
don't have any gloves [or dead lizards] and you've found a zoo on level
12 with 5 cockatrices running around that you don't want to inadvertantly
run into.)

I accidentally threw a potion of healing onto a monster,
and hack said something like "the XXX looks refreshed".
So throwing potions works, but obviously not with damaging potions.

Sorry, but I believe the damaging potions do affect monsters. I don't
think it spits out a message however.
