DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR USED UP WAND OF DIGGING as this is the only reasonable way to get the amulet. Yes the amulet is hidden under a rock somewhere on the level. You must try to determine where and go there with your used up wand of digging. If you continue to try to zap this wand, sooner or later you'll get the following message : You wrest one more spell from your worn out wand : What Direction? I haven't checked the source to see how often this happens but it may take 50 or more turns.
