I just lost a game due to a bug with Elbereth. I was standing on an Elbereth, and started to get hungry. All I had was two tins, but I couldn't open either of them. I guess the routine that checks for a monster next to you doesn't realize that you won't get attacked. Spoiler ahead!!!! There is a nice bug that S's can use when they are on Elbereth. Apply your pick-axe in the direction of the monster and you can kill it without disturbing the writing. Unfortunately, this has been fixed here.
