This article contains several spoilers about hack, derived from reading the source to version 1.0.2. If you don't like spoilers, go read something else. "What can you use a blank scroll for?" Absolutely nothing. (If you're confused, you "see strange patterns." Still no effect.) "Is there any way to find out whats in a tin without eating it?" No. Hack doesn't decide what's in the tin (by rolling random numbers) until you successfully open it. "What is a potion that causes 'Your legs feel better' msg to appear called? What does a xan do when it pricks your legs? You collapse under your load, but your strength remains the same. Any way to avoid these little pricks (pun intended)?" That's a potion of speed doing another of its functions: curing "wounded legs". Both your left and right legs are either "wounded" or "not wounded". This is independent of your strength, but is a factor in your ability to carry and to do other things. You avoid this by genociding xans. Another way to cure wounded legs is to eat royal jelly. "I killed a dragon, but even dropping everything, and with 18/00 strength couldn't lift it. I read in the notes that eating one had a side effect, so how do I do it?" In version 1.0.2, you stand on the dragon and type "e". Hack then says "There is a dragon here, do you want to eat it?" "Is there a way to get beyond levels with mazes?" Wear a ring of teleport control, become confused, and read a teleport scroll. Hack will ask you what level to teleport to. The deepest level is number 39. "I'd also like to hear of any other clever tricks people have thought out or discovered such as reading scrolls when confused to make them do novel things." Keep reading this newsgroup. Much of this information has already been posted. For example, reading an enchant weapon scroll while confused will rustproof your weapon (acid blob splash won't hurt it), while reading an enchant armor scroll while confused will rustproof a piece of your armor (handy against rust monsters). -=- Andrew Klossner (decvax!tektronix!orca!andrew) [UUCP] (orca!andrew.tektronix@csnet-relay) [ARPA]
