>>4: Does a wizard have any magical abilities, and if so, how does one use them? > > No, he only starts out with some magical items. This isn't strictly true. There are a few ways in which the wizard character has an advantage over other types of character. If you would rather preserve the mystery, don't read any further. A magic whistle differs from an ordinary whistle in that its application causes your dog(s) to teleport to your side. When a non-wizard whose experience level is less than 9 encounters a magic whistle, it looks and acts just like a normal whistle. Wizards of any level can recognize and use magic whistles. When a non-wizard "wastes" a spell (e.g., reads a scroll of destroy armor while not wearing armor), then if she has fewer than 2000 experience points, the generic "You have a strange feeling" message is displayed. With 2000 or more points, she sees a more specific message (such as "Your skin itches" for destroy armor.) A wizard begins to see these specific messages upon attaining only 1000 experience points. A wizard can begin using ^T when she attains experience level 6. A mundane begins using ^T at level 10. ^T also requires that you be teleporting, i.e., have eaten an 'L', 'N', or 't' or be wearing a ring of teleport, and it uses 100 units of food. All this is true of hack version 1.0.3. -=- Andrew Klossner (decvax!tektronix!orca!andrew) [UUCP] (orca!andrew.tektronix@csnet-relay) [ARPA]
