[[ Th re s no su h t ing as a Li e-E ti g Bu . ]] It probably comes as no great shock to you that when you etch 'Elbereth' with your bare hand, monsters will not attack you if you remain on that square. This is because they won't MOVE over that square as long as the message remains undisturbed. Note that teleporting or levitating off a square with a hand-written message leaves the message undisturbed. Consider the following: your character is a weak sunuvabitch with some means of teleporting. You run into a David's Treasure Zoo full of all kinds of fun playmates, like D, c, I, x, U, X, e, P, etc. E-Elbereth and teleport or levitate off the message at each tunnel/door into the room. This will effectively seal them in (except l and t, unsure about L). Note that if you're not able to teleport or levitate at will, this might not work if there's more than one door to the room (as they split out the back door while your waiting to close up the front door), and in any case will certainly take a while. You can clean up later, when you're on your way out with the amulet ( <:-D -{yuk yuk yuk!!} ) or at least a little stronger. The Silver { gaynor@ru-green, gaynor@topaz }
