[net.music] Lyrics

The following may be classified as an example of "good lyrics" or
"bad lyrics", depending on how sensitive/repressed/random you are.
The song was played a lot about a month ago in Boston. It is
called "I like them Big and Stupid" by Julie Brown (I went to high
school with someone named Julie Brown... Naah, couldn't be...)
It goes somthing like this (from month-old memory):

I like them Big and Stupid

When I need something to help me unwind,
I get a six-foot baby with a one-track mind.
Smart guys are nowhere, they make demands,
Give me a moron with talented hands.
When I go bar hopping and they say last call,
I start shopping for a Neanderthal.

chorus:
The bigger they come, the harder I fall,
We make love 'till we're done and then they're out in the hall.
I like them big and stupid.
I like them big and real dumb.
<repeat chorus>

What kind of guy does a lot for me?
Superman with a lobotomy.
My father went to Harvard, my brother went to Yale,
But the guy I took home last night just got out of jail.
The way he grabbed and threw me, Ooh it got me hot.
But the way he growled and bit me, I hope he had his shots.

<chorus>

I met a guy who drives a truck.
He can't tell time but he sure can drive. <== Best Line!!!
I asked his name and he had to think.
Could I have found the missing link?
He's so stupid, you know what he said?
Well, I forgot what he said, but it was so stupid.

<chorus>

A lot of the amusement of the song comes from the phrasing
and tone. As hack songs go, I like it much better than
anything by The Fools (Psycho Chicken, Life Sucks and then
You Die), The Curly Shuffle, Weird Al's stuff, etc.
See if your favorite local station will play it.

i know this is a fairly well-used target, but...

who the HELL can understand a WORD that michael jackson sings?

"mama alz tol me, be cafu what ch do, don' go 'roun break jung girz-har (e-e-e)
but choo came n stuu rye by me, cuu sme yer swee purfewm, ----- -- - ---
a lie b'cumzuh choo, he-e-ey, billy chean zz snot my lovuh, 's chus uh gur who
thinkszat i am th one, but th kii iz snot my sun"

believe it or not, i actually like this song alot, when i finally saw a copy of
the lyrics i was shocked, the same goes with "wanna be starting somthing"

" you're a vegetable, you're a vegetable, they eat off of you, you're a
vegetable, you're a buffet, they eat off of you..."

there are alot of good lyrics around,(including "you wanna be starting
something") a favorite of mine is "(1 2 3 4 5) senses working overtime"
by xtc, in fact, xtc's lyrics AND music are usually very good, if not always
intelligible.
boy, i'm glad somebody else likes "i don't care about you (f*ck you).

I can see through his disguise.
Oh, am I surprised!

Hmmm... this is an obvious ploy to shake out the Crack the Sky fans.

Anybody out there into slightly off-beat american rock who hasn't had the
pleasure of being introduced to Crack the Sky? I highly recommend *old*
Crack albums. Specifically their first four studio records (_Crack the Sky_,
_Animal Notes_, _Safety in Numbers_, and _White Music_ ('no blues, no beat,
no root, it's just neat - to play white music in the street')). After that,
I understand they become increasingly worthless (if anyone knows the better,
please let me know!). Oh, yes, unfortunately, they are well out of print -
well, if anyone is sufficiently interested, I can arrange to get tapes from
the guy I got *my* tapes from - another possibility is the album
_Classic Crack the Sky_ which is still around (it is selections from above
mentioned albums).

*Anyway*, AOR-wise, I'm don't like many american bands (I'm British to the core
and (nearly) religiously watch Pythons, Doctor Who, Faulty Towers, and all the
other classic British shows (when they are being shown in the area)), except
jazz-wise, of course in which case the situation is reversed: I haven't
heard any British band with *any* feel for jazz besides Brand X (again,
If anyone knows better, *please* correct me!); but (old) Crack is a different
story. Their albums are an honest display of humour, satire, and pure
emotion (in various and sundry mixtures) - nothing superficial here.
Also, musically, they are very melodically and harmonically oriented (the
guitar solos are always a pleasure) and they can't let a song go by without
a big twist somewhere (a suprising ending and simply a rhythm that defys
your ability to follow it even if you've heard the song many times!). They
also know how to get extremely funky at times (esp. on _Safety in Numbers_).

Well, enough. Send your comments, questions, flames, information, and
small parakeets (don't ask *me* what that means) to me and I'll post
again stuff that is net-usefull (i.e. let's save some bytes and not reply
to the net when correcting someone else or offering more info; let the
bozo who sent the original article summarize replys)
