"It would be nice to have something like a "scroll of
preservation." I'm always killing things that I would like to
eat (for their side effects) but cannot because I'm satiated at
the time. Once hungry again, the beastie has rotted into
inedibilty...."
This purpose is served by the large box that a spelunker gets. It's a
cooler, and corpses placed inside it are preserved. You can wish for
one with a wand of wishing.
Under hack version 1.0.3: If you're scared silly of cockatrices and
can't find a scroll of genocide, carry an acid blob or two in the large
box. When the cockatrice hits you and you start turning to stone,
quickly take out an acid blob and eat it. This dissolves your
stoniness.
Acid blobs are the only corpses (besides lizards) which never become
tainted. They will disappear when ripe, however; thus the need for the
box.
