[net.games.hack] Amiga HACK is Here!!!

jcz@ncsu.UUCP (Carl Zeigler) (01/08/86)

I have successfully ported HACK 1.0.1 to the Amiga and would be
happy to share it with anyone who is interested. Due to the size of
the source, I am hesitant to post it here but would be more than happy
to send it to anyone interested.

I have converted it to take advantage of the features the Amiga has
to offer including:
Hack and the 6 possible characters appear as ICONS that can be
      run by clicking on them.
Saved games appear as icons in a saved games 'treasure chest'
Numeric keypad and cursor keys for movement commands.
Menus to display and allow selection of commands (although prompting
for options and objects still works the way it always has)
Mouse pointer for Christening yoour dog annd Ring of teleport control.

There are currently two bugs:
Escape to AmigaDos sometimes blows up upon return to Hack.
Sometimes it doesn't run, but the memory required to load it is gone.

The source alone fills an entire disk and the game takes most of a second
disk (executable is 218K - it requires a 512K machine) but can be played
on a single drive machine. As it stands, it is almost too large to link
on a 512K machine.

Some enhancements include update to 1.0.2 If anyone can locate the source
for the update - Even printed form is acceptable since I don't have the
utilities to apply the zaps; Speech for some of the messages; and of
course graphics for the dungeon.

I will ship a (DYSAN) diskette of the game (no source yet until I have all
the bugs out) to anyone for $6.00 - covers diskette cost, copying, and
mailer/postage of the latest version I have whenever I get a request.
Since it is public domain, you may (and should) freely share it with
anyone else. Any reasonable suggestions for enhancements are welcome.

Do you mean 'C'all your ring of teleport control something? Why would
you want to? I know aout 'C'alling your long sword, but have never
heard of naming a ring.
