Someone recently posted that, in order to kill eels, you must have the ability to "see invisible". Actually, I have killed eels without being able to see them, although this is rather risky (if you try to hit a pool which does not contain an eel, then you will end up in the pool, drowning). A ring/potion of levitation enables you to fight eels fairly safely. It is best to avoid them if possible. After I had played several games killing various eels, passing through rooms containing pools, etc., imagine my surprise when an eel hit me and grabbed me and pulled me down into the pool, drowning me! It happened in one turn, so I did not have a chance to use teleport away. Once I polymorphed an eel into a "normal" monster (I forget what it was) and the monster immediately drowned! So, that is another way of killing eels. I suspect a wand of fire will do interesting things, as well. A ring of teleport control is the best bet for avoiding pools, and is just about indispensible for exploring the lower levels safely. Michael Stimac ...hplabs!oliveb!tymix!stimac
