[net.games.hack] Some Beginners Questions

Another way you can do it is do dig a hole in the wall from the outside, and
then walk in the hole that you dig. (in case you didn't know this you CAN
dig through the walls of a shop, you just have to keep at it. Note that it
tells you that the wall SEEMS too hard to dig into.). When you leave the
shopkeeper will follow you tapping you on the shoulder and saying "Didn't
you forget to pay?". One intersting event that a friend of mine encountered
was on a ghost level that he found upon which was a shop that the ghost had
robbed. He passed the shopkeeper in a room and it said to him "Hello dml,
I was looking for gronk". He found the shop unguarded.

That's a little too unreliable for me. My favorite method is to dig a hole
in the wall of the shop from the outside, before I go in and rip the guy
off. You have to be pretty persistent to dig through such a hard wall,
but it doesn't take long.

By the way, when ripping off shopkeepers don't forget to first sell him
everything you are carrying. It's a great way to load up on gold. You
can sell him the bodies of things you killed outside the shop. Also, when
selling things that come in bunches (e.g., rocks or arrows) sell them one
at a time: the price is the same whether it's one or a bunch!

All this applies to hack 1.0.2.

A final note: I removed a 'usa' distribution from this message. Hack was
*written* in Europe, folks; let's be nice enough to share our findings
with our many international friends who also love the game.
