Yes, saying your name is "Croesus" or "Kroisos" will make the guard go away. But, if you say your name is something else, that's okay too because the guard doesn't bother you, he just stays and watches. If you have a pick-axe or a wand of digging you can dig your way around the guard and escape the vault. If you go back in, the guard is right where you left him. The guard never moves around like a shopkeeper does. Interesting note: If you zap the guard with a wand of teleport monster, the guard gets angry but teleports away. You can find him somewhere else on the level but again, he doesn't move, he just stays in one place. He will hit you though if you teleport him. I only killed a guard once but no gold or anything else was left behind. (true of version 1.0.3) Steve Herring ...!tektronix!tekig4!stevenh
